This policy explains what personal data Meme Maker (https://mememaker.khurramiftikhar.com) processes, why, on what legal basis under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG), and what rights you have.

Pictures and text you add

Meme Maker works entirely in your browser. Pictures you upload, drag in or paste, and the text you write, are processed on your device. They are never sent to us and we do not keep a copy.

Hosting and security

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Storage: short-lived logs kept by Cloudflare for security purposes. We do not keep our own visitor logs.

Fonts

All fonts are served from this website itself. Your browser does not contact Google Fonts or any other font service.

Meme template sources

To show meme templates, your browser loads template lists and images directly from Imgflip, Memegen (api.memegen.link) and Reddit, and some images through the images.weserv.nl image service. When it does, these providers receive your IP address and normal browser information under their own privacy policies. Template pages may also show an image the server looked up from these sources.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in offering a searchable collection of meme templates (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
You can avoid this by using only the Upload picture tab with your own images.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, topic and message, and use them only to answer you. The form is delivered by Web3Forms (privacy policy), which passes the message on to our inbox.

Legal basis: answering your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, or our legitimate interest in replying, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Storage: we keep messages only as long as needed to answer them and delete them after that, unless the law requires us to keep them longer. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.

Advertising and cookies

Meme Maker is free because it shows ads served by Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). We do not set our own cookies, but Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure them and prevent fraud.

Your consent: visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland see a consent message from Google before cookies are used for personalised ads. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the privacy link or button that the message adds to the page. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing before the withdrawal.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 165(3) Telekommunikationsgesetz 2021). Without consent Google may still show non-personalised ads, using limited data, for example to count ads and prevent fraud.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Transfers outside the EU

Cloudflare and Google are based in the USA and are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission has found to give an adequate level of protection (Art. 45 GDPR). Other providers named above may also process data outside the EU under their own safeguards.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

To use these rights, email mememaker@khurramiftikhar.com. Because we do not keep your pictures, text or an account for you, we usually hold no data about you beyond contact messages.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Austria this is the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Wien, www.dsb.gv.at.

No automated decisions

We do not use your data for automated decisions or profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Children

Meme Maker is not directed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
